observationinference -based on 5 senses (sight, hearing, touch, smell, taste) -a factual statement -lead to developing a problem for the scientific method. - a logical interpretation of an event based on observations and prior knowledge (what you think is happening based on what you observe) -may be incorrect

Guided Practice! I walked into my classroom this morning and the lights were on. Observation- the lights were on. Inference- I must have left them on when I left last night The custodian must have come in and turned the lights on last night. Another teacher came in this morning and turned on the lights.

Practice on your own! Please copy the following statement on your scratch sheet of paper. Circle the observation. Underline the inference. I walked outside this morning and the ground was wet. It must have rained last night.
