POIWG#29_CADMOS-Inc27-28 Overview I Jan. 25-27. 2011 I Huntsville, AL I Page 4 Science overview Experiment that intends to test: 1.How the cardiovascular system adapts to prolonged weightlessness and whether the arterial resistance vessels are chronically dilated in space. 2.Whether there is a mismatch between the level of sympathetic nervous activity and dilatation of these vessels. Main Hardware Pulmonary Function System (Cardiac output - DAMEC) CDL Holter Arterial BP Equipment (24h BP measurements - CADMOS) – FM Spare/41P Blood Sample Kit, ESA Urine Collection Kit (CADMOS), HRF-2 RC and MELFI Subjects (6 desired, 8 preferred) Inc 26-27: P. Nespoli (prime - #7), C. Coleman (Reserve #8 – pending urine collection feedback) Inc 28-29: S. Furukawa (Prime #9 – if CC not performed, will be the last subject) Implementation 1 in flight session per subject, preferably after 3 months on-orbit, minimal 2 months. Crew time Day 0: 10 min (CDL Holter batteries insertion) Day 1: 175 min ( EPM laptop activation for Holter configuration, PFS S/U, Holter S/U, Start of 24hr urine collection, 3 PFS measurements, Holter data saving) Day 2: 240 min (Blood collection, RC, MELFI insertion, end of urine collection, urine sampling and MELFI insertion, 2 PFS measurements, Holter data saving, stowage) Data Holter data / Urine Log stored on PCMCIA card – downlink to ground via EPM Photo / Video Video of one rebreathing session CARD

Software Tasks : drawing, distance, illusion Main Hardware Laptop, head mounted display, trackball, digital tablet and pen, Ultrabay Hard Disk, PCMCIA card Subjects (Requirement after Mid term review: 8 subjects) Inc 26-27: Paolo Nespoli #7, Catherine Coleman #8 (On Going) Inc 28-29: Mike Fossum #9 (pending PN and CC results, if successful MF won’t be performed – end of experiment) Implementation 4 to 5 sessions per subject Crew time Installation: 15 min Experimental session: 30 min Stowing : 15 min +10 min for OCA transfer during the last session Data Data stored on PCMCIA card – downlink to ground via OCA then TSC/Web Mirage Photo / Video 2 Photos/session are desired for evaluation of subjects head and body position during free-floating Mental Representation of Spatial Cues During Spaceflight 3D-SPACE

Subject quasi free floating uses a tunnel (lighshield) to immerge into a virtual corridor and evaluate « passability » through doors.
