Tree diagrams and the Fundamental Counting Principle are two methods used for counting outcomes. Use tree diagrams when it is necessary to know the specific possible outcomes or when the number of choices is small. Use the Fundamental Counting Principle when there are many choices, the numbers are large, the number of possible outcomes are needed quickly, or a list of specific possible outcomes is not necessary.
