1955 Tim Berners-Lee was born in London, England to Conway Berners-Lee and his wife Mary.
5
Childhood As a child Tim had parents that were both computer scientists. His family was very imaginative. When he was a kid he would build computers out of boxes. He loved math and science, and reading science fiction.
6
1973 Tim graduates from Emanuel High School.
7
1976 Tim graduates from Queens College at Oxford University in London. While at Queens College he builds a computer from an old TV set. John Moffat, a physics tutor at Oxford, is a big influence on Tim and helps him a lot with computers.
8
1977 The first personal computer was made, The Apple 2.
9
1980 Tim begins a six month assignment at CERN, a physics lab near Geneva, Switzerland. At CERN, his job is to notify researchers when big changes happen, then he shows them how to access the data.
10
Making Enquire While at CERN, Tim made a program called Enquire. Enquire was a program that could help him with his bad memory. It was used for storing the information generated by everyone at CERN. He never published this program, it was only used for himself.
11
1981 The first IBM personal computer was made.
12
1983 Bill Gates created Windows and Microsoft Word.
13
1989 Tim came back to CERN to create the World Wide Web. The World Wide Web is very similar to Enquire, the program he created in 1980 at CERN.
14
1990 Tim develops all of the tools needed to create and view web pages. The tools are; internet browser (for example: Internet Explorer or Netscape), server, html (the codes used to create web pages), http, and URL addressing scheme.
15
1991 Tim’s daughter was born. During that year he also made all web software available on the internet.
16
1992 Tim posts up signs for students to make web browsers. He does this because there are no web browsers for Macintosh or Windows, and there are only ones for Unix.
17
1994 Tim’s son was born. During that year he also established the World Wide Web Consortium. World Wide Web Consortium
