He began to develop an interest in film as a young boy, when he would cast family members and friends in short films which he directed. At the age of 10 he produced his first movie, an 8mm western lasting three minutes. At the age of 16 with a budget of $500 he produced Firelight, a two-hour, two-minute science fiction movie.
