Toads These are the toads

Fowler’s Toad 2 or more “warts” per dark spot between parotid glands. Ridge between cranial crest and parotid gland. Don’t confuse with: AMERICAN TOAD (1 “wart” per spot)

American Toad 1 wart per spot behind parodial gland DO NOT confuse with: Wood houses toad (2 warts per spot)

Spade foot Toad Shovel “spade” tip on toe

Frogs These are the frogs

Green Frog Dorsal lateral fold goes ¾ of the way down the body. DO NOT confuse with: American Bullfrog (fold stops behind eye)

American Bullfrog Dorsolateral fold terminates behind the eye DO NOT confuse with Green Frog (fold goes ¾ down body)

Leopard Frog Sporadic spots Southern Leopard: has light spot on tympanum DO NOT confuse with: pickerel frog (uniform spots, paired) Southern LFNorthern LF

Pickerel Frog Uniform spots, two together, paired DO NOT confuse with: leopard frog (random spots)

Gray Tree Frog Smaller, adhesive disks on digits. Hs white block under eye before tympanum

Spring Peeper Frog Has an “x” on back. Small, light tan color

Chorus Frog 3 dark lines down lower part of abdomen, darker in color. 3 lines = 3 choruses in song.

Wood Frog Dark eye mask “zorro frog”

Cricket Frog Triangle between eyes

Salamanders These are the salamanders

Hellbender Wrinkly skin, largest salamander

Long-tailed Salamander Orange with black spots and vertical stripes on tail DO NOT confuse with: cave salamander (no stripes [chevrons] on tail)

Cave Salamander Orange salamander with black spots over entire body. DO NOT confuse with: long tailed salamander (vertical stripes on tail and a long tail… duh)

Red-backed Salamander Faint orange color on back. Dark side with speckled belly.

Two-lined Salamander Two lines on back, speckled in middle of lines

Marbled Salamander Dark/light marble pattern over body

Eastern Newt Open black circles over body (doughnut circles)

Slimy Salamander Light finger, dark background, white spots

Tiger Salamander Light and dark tiger stripe pattern
