PEMDAS Pemdas means parenthesis, exponents, multiplying, dividing, adding, and subtracting. Another way to say PEMDAS is Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally. PEMDAS is in order from Parenthesis to Subtracting.

Parenthesis First, We have to look for the first step in the problem, which is parenthesis, Next, We subtract the numbers that are in the parenthesis. Example: 16 + 14 ÷ 7 (20 - 10) x 2 4 16 + 14 ÷ 7 x (10) x 2 4

Exponents Exponents mean the number times the base is being multiplied. When you are doing exponents, you are multiplying the number by itself to the number that is the exponent. Ex: 2 4 = 2 x 2 x 2 x 2 = 4 x 4 = 16 16 + 14 ÷ 3 x (10) x 2 4

Dividing Dividing is the operation of determining how many times one quantity is contained in another; the inverse of multiplication. Ex: 14 ÷ 7 = 2 16 + 14 ÷ 7 x (10) x 16

Multiplying When you multiply, you have to multiply a number times a number. When you are done doing that, you will get the product. EX: 2 x 10 x 16 = 320 16 + 2 x 10 x 16

Adding Adding is when you are putting two numbers together to get a number larger than those two numbers. Ex: 16 + 320 =336

PROBLEM #5 USE ORDER OF OPERATIONS. 16 + 14 ÷ 7 (20-10) x 2 4 Hint: P E M D A S
