There are basically 4 levels. 1. Parenthesis 2. Exponents 3. Multiplication and Division, from left to right. 4. Addition and Subtraction, from left to right. Order of Operations

Example 1 3 + 2 x 6 - 7 Using PEMDAS, multiply (or divide) before you add and subtract. 3 + 12 - 7 Now, just add and subtract, working from left to right. 15 - 7 8 Answer

Example 2 8 + (3 x 4) - 13 Parentheses first 8 + 12 - 13 Now, just add and subtract, working from left to right. 20 - 13 7Answer

Example 3 3 4 - (4 x 10) + 3 3 4 - 40 + 3 The exponent comes next (PEMDAS). Remember, 3 4 is 3 x 3 x 3 x 3. 81 - 40 + 3 41 + 3 44 Answer Parentheses first Now, just add and subtract, working from left to right.
