Learning Goal Students will be able to read, write, and evaluate expressions with variables and exponents and apply properties of operations to generate equivalent expressions.
4
Essential Questions How can the use of variables and expressions help us to simplify and solve problems? How do you know two expressions are equivalent? How can a knowledge of exponents, the distributive property, and other properties of operations help us to simplify expressions? How can numerical and algebraic expressions be used to represent real-life situations?
5
Standards MAFS.6.E.E.1.3 (DOK 2) Apply the properties of operations to generate equivalent expressions. MAFS.6.E.E.1.4 (DOK 1) Identify when two expressions are equivalent. Recognize when two expressions are equivalent.
