2 2 DC is Growing But not all Wards are growing at the same pace, or even at all. This reflects the many disparities that exist within the District. Population Growth: 2000-2010

3 3 Unemployment Joblessness plagues much of the District, particularly our poorest residents and neighborhoods. The Administration is making great strides in addressing unemployment, but this remains one of the most serious issues facing our city, particularly those residents with multiple barriers to employment (i.e. low education, limited skills and work experience, criminal records, etc.) Adult Unemployment Rate: 2007-2011 estimate

4 4 Poverty Too many of our children are growing up in poverty, and in neighborhoods of concentrated poverty. We know this to have serious consequences that impact childhood development and future outcomes for individuals and society. Rate of Children Living in Poverty: 2007-2011 estimate

5 5 Public Health Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) clients: 2010 Many residents rely on public assistance to meet their nutritional needs, and survive on $4.50 worth of food per day. This leads to health concerns that are later compounded by unequal access to medical care.
