“A low-cost upgrade for obsolete CB-Hawk systems” Preferred Instruments CB-Hawk Replacement System Based on BurnerMate TS Technology www.preferred-mfg.com
3
Known as Honeywell BC-7700 and Cleaver-Brooks Hawk systems, thousands of units have been installed since the early 90’s. Honeywell abruptly stopped manufacturing system components and spare parts over a year ago. The History.
4
The Problem CB has literally thousands of systems installed with very limited repair parts--many already gone. CB’s answer is a very expensive PLC-based upgrade costing $17K-$40K plus installation. Alternatively, C-B will convert the Hawk system to an RM-7800 for $7,000 (and lose all the functions of the Hawk system)
5
Preferred’s Solution Introduced in 2005, the BurnerMate TS consists of: A programmable DCS A Honeywell flame relay A touch-screen HMI.
6
Preferred’s Solution Preferred has configured a BurnerMate TS system to be a wire-for-wire replacement for the CB Hawk system. Replace Hawk sub-panel with Preferred sub-panel. Replace gas & oil pressure sensors with pressure switches. Installation is as simple as…

Preferred’s Solution Preferred has configured a BurnerMate TS system to be a wire-for-wire replacement for the CB Hawk system. Replace steam pressure sensor with a pressure transmitter. (or temp. transmitter for hot water boilers) Replace mod motor with Preferred SM-15 servo actuator

Preferred’s Solution Preferred has configured a BurnerMate TS system to be a wire-for-wire replacement for the CB Hawk system. Remove CB Hawk keypad. Install the Preferred touch- screen display. Blockware is pre-programmed. Commissioning is as easy as filling- in-the-blanks.

Preferred’s Solution Preferred has configured a BurnerMate TS system to be a wire-for-wire replacement for the CB Hawk system. Existing control panel, entrance box, control switches, flame scanner, and operating limits are re-used. Existing solid state gas and oil pressure sensors can be re-used for monitoring purposes. But don’t! They will fail eventually too and replacement parts are unavailable.

Easy Set-Up Fill-in-the-blanks on factory-configured screens.

12
The screen pages closely resemble the language and logic of the old Hawk systems. “Fill-in-the-Blanks” commissioning. Operators should not be intimidated and won’t have to “re-learn.”
13
Retrofit Advantages Lowest cost, full function replacement Easiest Conversion Technology proven in thousands of PCC-III and DCS-III installations Lowest install time
14
Product Improvements Touch-screen is easier to use. DCS-III is configurable for future upgrades. PV inputs are standard, non-proprietary. Gas and oil switches are standard, non- proprietary. 10” touch-screens are available NFPA compliant U.L. 508 compliant
15
Product Improvements Ethernet IP-Standard Modbus-Standard Remote monitoring through standard web browser. The BurnerMate TS can communicate with building management systems, energy management systems, or a DCS via open protocols including:
16
Cost Competitive Material cost is under $15,000. Product is packaged for easy installation in existing Hawk enclosures. This makes for a less expensive project than CB’s upgrade options.
17
Support Proven BurnerMate Technology. Fewer proprietary parts. Industry-standard communications. Software is pre-programmed for simplicity, but can easily be expanded for more functionality. Rep and factory support available. Free factory training is available.
