By the end of today’s lesson students should: -Be able to give examples of parts of the Nile River -Understand the basic geography of the Nile River

Location: The Nile River is located in Africa. It flows through Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Sudan and Egypt. The River Nile is formed from the White Nile, which originates at Lake Victoria and the Blue Nile, which originates at Lake Tana in Ethiopia. The two rivers meet in Sudan.

Nile River Basin: The Nile Basin covers an area of 3.18 million square kilometers and is shared by 11 countries: Burundi DR Congo Egypt Eritrea Ethiopia Kenya Rwanda South Sudan The Sudan Tanzania Uganda

Source: The River Nile is formed from the White Nile, which originates at Lake Victoria and the Blue Nile, which originates at Lake Tana in Ethiopia.

Tributaries and Confluence: The two tributaries of the Nile River, the Blue Nile and White Nile, meet in Sudan, at the city of Khartoum. Today Khartoum is an important city of over 5 million people.

Delta: The Nile River delta is located in Northern Egypt. It is one of the largest river deltas in the world and stretches 240 kilometers along the Mediterranean Sea and from north to south stretches 160 kilometers. It covers rich farmland.

Memphis: An ancient important city located on the Nile River near the delta. In ancient times it was a center of trade, business, culture and religion.

Mouth: The Nile River empties into the Mediterranean Sea. Alexandria is an ancient city located near the mouth of the river.
