Type A and Type B was first developed by a cardiac physician in the early 1970s He became interested in how/why his patients recovered differently from heart surgery Type A/B personalities represent different points on a continuum rather than opposite extremes

Hardy Personality Referred to as psychological hardiness One that has a large amount of commitment, control and challenge Less likely to suffer the ill effects of stress Has characteristics that “buffer” the effects of stress Can experience stressful situations, yet remain calm and function at a high level
