MSM (men who have sex with men) is one of high- risk groups for HIV/AIDS in China. According to domestic surveys concerned gays/bisexuals account for 2-3% of sexually mature population of China. It was estimated there are about 5-10 million gay/bisexuals in China. And high-risk behaviors, such as multi-sexual partners, unprotected sexual activities are very common in MSM. According to domestic surveys concerned 1-2% of MSMs were infected with HIV. 1 Background

2 Materials and Methods Snow-ball sampling method was used in this research and 6 representative cities (Chongqing, Nanjing, Xi’an, Shenyang, Dalian and Qingdao) were selected. Resource of participants from 3 ways : Making contact with the MSMs through some pivotal local MSMs, who have been in close ties with our program; Selecting the MSMs willing to test HIV through local homosexual volunteer network, hotlines; Disseminating HIV test information through homosexual journal “Friend Exchange” were used to contact MSMs. Data were analyzed using SPSS 11.0 software.

3 Results

1416 samples were investigated, and 1384 effective questionnaires were collected and used to analysis. Responding rate is 97.74%. Participants consisted of mainly young (72.58% participants belong to the age of no great than 30), Han nationalty (96.39%), unmarried (77.39%). The mean age of participants was 27.53 years, with an age range from 15 to 72. 54.32% participants had completed college and over education. 3.1 Sample characteristics

3.2 Self-recognized sexual orientation and attraction 84.28% samples self-recognized gay/bisexual orientation. Among them, 51.17% and 33.11% recognized themselves gay and bisexual orientation respectively. In addition, 9.48% samples recognized pure man-attraction. 35.36% was often attracted by male. However 7.39% of participants still had female orientation.

3.5 Demographic and sexual behavior characteristic of 13 HIV cases Among HIV cases, 11 persons belong to Han nationality. 3, 4 and 3 persons graduated from junior high school, senior high school and college, respectively. 8 cases never married. 9, 2 and 1 cases recognized themselves sexual orientation and attraction as gay, homosexual, heterosexual, respectively. 1 case could not recognize his sexual orientation. 7 cases reported truly men attraction.

HIV cases had more sexual partners: 5 cases had sex with more than 10 partners in the last 6 months. 12 cases reported oral sex (including insertion and receptive oral sex); In average, the mean oral sexual partners were 8.75 persons. All of them practiced unsafe oral intercourse in the last 6 moths. 10 cases had anal sex in the last 6 months; they had anal sex with 5.30 partners in average. 9 cases practiced unsafe anal sex. In addition, 6 cases reported had sex with females. 9 cases traded for sex in the last 6 months; 4 cases reported group sex.
