Who designed it How it would have been made - Machinery and how it would have been created.

3 What Is The Diamond Coronet? The coronet has a row of thirteen scrolled palmettes (a fan- like shape of leaves on a palm tree), alternating with a lotus pattern. The upper section was made around 1893 and was set throughout with cushion-shaped diamonds. The base has a row of lozenge motifs set between two lines of more cushion shaped diamonds and dates from around 1897. It is mounted in silver and gold. Design is carried on all the way around The coronet.

4 Who Was It Made For ? Made for the 8 th Duchess of Devonshire from the 8 th Duke of Devonshire. Given to her when she was 61. one year after their marage to eachother. Duke- 23 July 1833 – 24 March 1908 Duchess- 27 August -1870- April 1960 This diamond coronet was made for, Louise, Duchess of Devonshire, the year after her marriage to the 8th Duke in 1893 when she was aged 61. She was seen as a leader of fashion and society, holding many balls at Devonshire House and was especially well known for the magnificent jewellery that she wore. Louise Cavendish Spencer Cavendish

6 Double Duchess On 22 July 1852 she was married at Hanover to Viscount Mandeville, eldest son of the 6th Duke of Manchester. He succeeded his father as 7th Duke of Manchester on the 8 August 1855, and Louisa became Duchess of Manchester. The Duke of Manchester died at Naples on 22 March 1890 the sixty-year-old Dowager Duchess of Manchester married the 8th Duke of Devonshire, who had been in love with her for years. She thereby became Duchess of Devonshire; sometimes she is given the nickname "The Double Duchess“ Louisa Frederica Augusta Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire, formerly Louisa Montagu, Duchess of Manchester

7 When Was It Made Made in 1893 by A.E Skinner. Made in London at A.E Skinner and Co shop. Made and given as a gift to the duchess with in one year of manufacture.

8 A.E Skinner Skinner and co was founded in 1881 by Alfred Ernest Skinner. Trained with Messrs Catchpole and Williams, the well-known firm of London jewellers. In the 1890’s A.E Skinner went to the palace to show queen Victoria his jewlery. A E Skinner & Co. continued to hold the Royal Warrant without interruption until it merged with Bentley & Co. in 1998.
