TEENAGE LOVE ROMEO & JULIET By: Jordan Posvic & Sabrina Schmidt

DESCRIPTION OF THEME  Teenage love is teenagers mixed up between lust and love and they’re very dramatic about it. They aren’t mature enough to handle commitment. They don’t understand what real love is and are obsessed with the fact they have someone.

ROMEO AND JULIET  Romeo and Juliet thought they were very much in love. They confused love with lust; they only knew each other for a few days and they got married so quickly that they didn’t have time to decide if it was the right choice or not. Romeo and Juliet were physically attracted but they were far too dramatic about it.

RESEARCH QUESTION  Research Question: How does the different types of love affect the lives of modern American teens?

TOPIC WITH ROMEO & JULIET  The different types of love are really brought out in Romeo and Juliet by the relationships they have with different characters. Romeo and Juliet are infatuated with each other and they only want to be together because they’re physically attracted.  The Nurse and Juliet have a different type of relationship; they are more like mother and daughter. They tell each other everything, the nurse gives Juliet advice and they are super close.

QUOTE WITH ROMEO AND JULIET “I’ll look to like if looking liking move. But no more deep will I endart mine eye Than your consent gives strength to make it fly.”  This is the relationship between Paris and Juliet. Juliet is saying she will look at him and try to fall in love but if it doesn’t come naturally, she’s going to give up on being with him.

QUOTES WITH ROMEO AND JULIET “Sleep dwell upon thine eyes, peace in thy breast. Would I were sleep and peace, so sweet to rest. Hence will I to my ghostly friar’s close cell, His help to crave and my dear hap to tell.”  This is the relationship between Romeo and Juliet. Romeo is telling Juliet to sleep peacefully and he wishes he could stay with her, but instead he’s going to see the priest and ask for his help.

AMERICAN TEENAGERS TODAY  Today, American teenagers are in the same types of relationships as Romeo and Juliet were. They are physically attracted, but don’t know how to commit to each other. They often are only together because of lust; not true love.

QUOTE ON TEENAGERS TODAY “Teenagers have a host of expectations placed on their growing shoulders when they begin dating. Expectations from the opposite sex, from friends, from what they think society expects of them.”  This is how teenagers feel today; they get peer pressured into dating or made fun of for not having a boyfriend or girlfriend.

ANSWER TO QUESTION  How do the different types of love affect the modern American teens?  The different types of love affect teenagers because when they’re in love with a boyfriend/girlfriend, they get happy for a short time, and then when the relationship ends, they let it ruin their happiness. They need other types of love like parent/child love because that gives them support and reassurance.
