4 PTA Parent Teacher Association (PTA) is a volunteer organization of Parents and Teachers who are committed to the goal of quality education and nurturing environment for every child. PTA is the largest volunteer child advocacy group in the USA.

5 WATERLOO PTA Game Night, International Night, Bingo Night Carnival Several cultural arts assemblies + field day presenter 1 st family fun run - $3,700 to charity Created Yearbook and School Directory Staff support : welcome back lunch, conference dinners Screen-free week & community picnic Tradition of a strong PTA that also has a lot of fun. 8 Why the Common Core Standards? The standards are the result of a national movement to provide an equitable, coherent, focused, and rigorous curriculum. The standards will enable our students to be college and career ready in order to compete globally.

9 Why Grades 1 and 2 in 2012-2013? Maryland adopted the Common Core in 2011 and will begin assessing those standards during the 2014-2015 school year. HCPSS started the transition last year with kindergarten. The transition continues this year in prekindergarten, first and second grades. Next year, the transition will occur in intermediate grades so that all students are prepared for new assessments the following year in 2014-2015.

13 What is Co-Teaching? What is Co-Teaching? An approach to program delivery where two or more professionals within the same environment share the responsibilities of planning, instructing, and evaluating. (Ex. GT, Special Educators, Paraprofessionals, Reading/Math Support Teachers, ESOL, Speech Pathologist, etc.)

17 Office Issues Absent notes (a must) Late Arrival 9:25 If late, students must be signed in at the office and they will get a pass (Please do not use side doors). Early dismissal – send in a note with your child Changes in transportation – send a note in that morning Please make sure to get a visitor’s pass before coming to the classroom

19 Homework Schedule and Policy Students have spelling and math homework Monday through Thursday. Spelling will not be given if there is only a three day week. If a student does not hand in their homework, they will receive a slip to be signed by the parent. They will need to return the slip and completed homework by the next day

Please remember to make an appointment with the teacher if you would like to discuss your child. Please do not send invitations and thank you notes into school for your child to pass out.
