2 Purpose This lesson explains sound nutritional information based on the best recommendation from organizations such as The National Institutes of Health.

3 1. Identify the 6 nutrients your body requires, the good sources of these nutrients, and what each nutrient provides for a high quality, healthy lifestyle. 2. Determine the healthy choices for meals for one day. 3. Describe the diet athletes should follow to ensure peak performance.

4 4. Explain how to use the Nutrition Facts label found on most food items. 5. Describe the importance of water to the body. 7. Describe the possible effects of a diet high in fat and cholesterol. 8. Explain why salt, sugar, and caffeine should be used in moderation.
