Decisions Electrode geometry remains stable Aluminum profile construction favored 4 module high (1.5m) on the end walls (?) Mechanical design not settled: more options emerged. Participating institutes: – BNL (design) – CERN (testing, production) – SBU (mockups, testing, production) – Brazil (production) – William & Mary (mockups, testing)

Open Issues Field cage mechanical structure closely tied to installation – Pre-hinged FC/CPA assembly resurfaces 2.3m wide or half width module – End wall 4 module high vs 6m tall modules FC metal profile construction – roll-form vs extrusion Can we find an equivalent HV test at lower voltage in a room temperature environment

Deliverables Mockups to verify design Trial Assembly @ Ash River – Mechanical mockup: dimensions, weight, interfaces, handling – 2x 2.3m wide top – 2x 2.3m wide bottom – 4x 1.5m tall end wall with beam plug LAPD HV Test – Identical electrode corner/edge arrangement, spacing; similar mechanical construction/interface – 1.5mx1.5m ground plane, 2 end cap planes, 1 or 2 “cryostat wall” – 8x 1.2m x 0.6m FC modules ProtoDUNE – 6x 2.3m wide (or equivalent) top modules with ground planes – 6x 2.3m wide (or equivalent) bottom modules with ground planes – 16x 1.5m wide (or equivalent) end wall modules 4 with laser windows (2 pairs, mirror symmetry) 2 with beam plugs (different locations) – Plus spare parts (do we need spare modules?)

Next Steps Team building – Follow up on the relevant EOI institutes – Define design, prototyping, production tasks, schedule and resource needs – Assign responsibilities, tasks to participating institutes – Assist UNICAMP in grant application Settle the field cage design – Work with Installation/integration team to find an optimum field cage construction – Confirm the feasibility of using extruded Al profiles through HV test (surface texture comparison) – Develop a preliminary design on the LAPD HV test setup for work planning @ FNAL and among FC team
