1PANDA, Target meeting, Juelich, 08/09/2009 Pavel Fedorets Progress on Moscow-Jülich Pellet Target A.Boukharov, M.Büscher, V.Chernetsky, P.Fedorets, A.Gerasimov, A.Semenov

2PANDA, Target meeting, Juelich, 08/09/2009 Pavel Fedorets Current status Achieved: confirmed possibility of mono-disperse and satellite-free droplet production for cryogenic liquids: H 2, N 2, Ar Current activity: 1) Development of auxiliary systems for long and stable target operation 2) Optimization of target operation regimes according to PANDA requirements (small nozzles and high frequencies)

3PANDA, Target meeting, Juelich, 08/09/2009 Pavel Fedorets Main activities in 2009 1) Implementation of new type of filters into the nozzles 2) Improvement of target operation time by decreasing residual impurities. Commissioning of palladium purifier. 3) Stabilization of the thermodynamic parameters in the cryostat. Commissioning of the He filling system. 4) Development and investigation of stable regimes of the pellet production. Continue to development of diagnostic system.

4PANDA, Target meeting, Juelich, 08/09/2009 Pavel Fedorets New filters for the nozzles Old filters: grid with pore size 5 μm Problems with blocking for small nozzle diameters New filters: cylindrical stainless steel filters Ø 1.6 mm and a pore size 2 μm (the same as in WASA Pellet Target) (A.Winnemöller et al., IKP Annual Report 2007, p. 37) Current activity: study and development of technology for implementation the filter into the nozzle First results: no blocking in several last tests

5PANDA, Target meeting, Juelich, 08/09/2009 Pavel Fedorets Effect of freezing New filters! Nozzle diameter Ø 17 μm, f≈ 60 kHz beginning after ~ 3 hours V ≈ 5 m/c V ≈ 2 m/c

6PANDA, Target meeting, Juelich, 08/09/2009 Pavel Fedorets Purifiers New Hydrogen Palladium Purifier HP-50-VCR and Oxygen Removing Purifier IG 2500XL (for nitrogen) had been purchased. Achievable purity level for hydrogen is 9.0. Previous tests with hydrogen 7.0 and nitrogen 5.0.

7PANDA, Target meeting, Juelich, 08/09/2009 Pavel Fedorets Stability of cooling system

8PANDA, Target meeting, Juelich, 08/09/2009 Pavel Fedorets He filling system

9PANDA, Target meeting, Juelich, 08/09/2009 Pavel Fedorets He filling system

10PANDA, Target meeting, Juelich, 08/09/2009 Pavel Fedorets Diagnostic system Line scan camera AVIIVA UM2 for measurements of pellet flow parameters in scattering chamber resolution: 512 pixels pixel size: 14 μm maximum line rate: 98 kHz

11PANDA, Target meeting, Juelich, 08/09/2009 Pavel Fedorets New scattering chamber for new line scan camera Diagnostic system
