Materials The world is full of materials, some are pure materials like gold, iron or water (not tap water). Other materials are none pure materials like seawater, tap water or glass. Water is not a pure material because it has other things put in like fluoride (this is used to stop tooth decay).
3
Compounds A compound is a pure material which is made of at least two (or more) elements chemically joined together. The smallest particle that can exist in a compound is a molecule, it is made up of two or more atoms joined together. A compound is a pure material which is made of at least two (or more) elements chemically joined together. The smallest particle that can exist in a compound is a molecule, it is made up of two or more atoms joined together.
4
ELEMENT An element is a single material that can not be split into simpler materials. There are 92 different elements on the earth, some include mercury, magnesium or iron. Elements are made up of tiny particles called atoms. An atom is the smallest part of an element that can exist. Round about four million atoms could fit into a gap of 1mm! (but they can be different sizes)
5
Mixtures A lot of the things around us are non-pure materials. They are mixtures. In a mixture the materials are jumbled up and are not attached to each other. A mixture can have different amounts of materials in it to still be a mixture.

Metals and non-metal METALS We can divide elements into metals and non-metals. About four-fifths (80%) of elements are metals. Many of them are rare and hard to find. NON-METALS About one fifth of elements are non-metals but they are not as rare and easier to find. At room temperature non-metals are usually gases like hydrogen or oxygen. A few such as carbon and sulphur are solid.

Chemical reactions of metals Metals are very important to us. Some metals properties can alter when going through a chemical reaction. When a chemical attacks a metal it is called corrosion. Air and rain can cause metals to corrode, some metals don’t corrode even if they are exposed to rain and air. Rusting is the name given to the corrosion of iron, this costs the country millions every year.
8
Classification Metals have some properties the same like they are shiny. Non-metals have some properties the same like they are easy to break. If you look at the properties of elements you could see if they are non-metals or metals. Putting things like this together is called classification.
