Conjugating Verbs Verbs are given in the infinitive (ex: manger, nager, jouer) We have to conjugate (or change) them when used with subjects ex: skier = to ski. You wouldn’t say She to ski. You change to ski to skis. She skis.

-ER Verbs In French, verbs are categorized by their endings. -ER, -IR and -RE. These groups of verbs are called regular verbs To conjugate -ER verbs in French, you have to learn the pattern that they ALL follow.

-ER Verbs Steps to conjugate an -ER verb: 1. take the infinitive form of the verb & take off the -ER. example verb: jouer jou this part of the verb, without the -ER is called the stem

-ER Verbs Step 2: identify your subject. (je, tu, il, elle, nous, vous, ils)

-ER Verbs example: verb: jouer = to play subject: je = I 1. take off the -ER: jouer jou 2. look at subject: je 3. add the correct ending: -e: jou joue final conjugation: je joue

-ER Verbs Verbs in the present tense in French can mean 3 things: je joue = I play, I do play, I am playing
