COMPARISION CHART/ VENN DIAGRAM ANCIENT ROME ANCIENT ROME REPUBLIC BEGAN WITH THE OVERTHROW OF ROMAN MONARCHY. 2 CONSULS WERE ELECTED ANUALLY BY THE CITIZENS AND AVISED BY A SENATE. NO ONE WAS ALLOWED ABSOLUTE POWER OVER HIS CITIZENS, THEY WERE ONLY ALLOWED ONE YEAR. ANCIENT GREECE ONE OF GREECES MOST ENDURING CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE MODERN WORLD. ATHENS IS ONE OF THE FIRST KNOWN DEMOCRACY. PARTICIPATION IS NOT OPEN TO EVERYONE, HAD TO BE AN ADULT CITIZEN.

CHAPTER 2 LETS GO!

ROME REPUBLIC

ROMAN REPUBLIC… WHAT IS IT REALLY? Rome began with the overthrow of the Roman Monarchy. 2 consuls elected annually by the citizens and advised by a senate. A complex constitution gradually developed mostly on then principles of a separation of powers, checks and balances No one was allowed full/ absolute power over his citizens ( limited one year ). Rome’s land holding aristocracy traced their ancestry back to the early history of the Roman kingdom. Overtime the laws that gave the patricians exclusive rights were weakened.

NOW DO YOU SEE WHAT ROME IS? THAT IS WHY WE TOLD YOU ABOUT ROME!

CHAPTER 3

ANCIENT GREECE

In 507 B.C. the Athenian leader, Cleisthenes introduced a system he called rule by the people. There were 3 separate institutions; laws, council of representatives, and popular courts. Democracy one of Greece’s most enduring contributions to the modern world. Athens is one of the first known democracies. Did not elect representatives to vote on their behalf, but vote on legislation and executive bills in their own right. Participation was not open to everyone, had to be an adult citizen.

AND NOW YOU KNOW SOMETHING ABOUT ANCIENT GREECE!

WHERE DOES MARTY GO?

OUR CHOICES! KATY’S I chose Rome because, it is better than Greek democracy, and it began with the overthrow of Roman monarchy. There was also separations of powers, checks and balances. MAKAYLA’S I chose ancient Greece because, I like Greek democracy better than Roman Republic. I like it because it is fair, also it is majority rule and that is what we go by in the U.S.

MARTY MCFLY Marty Mcfly could go many different places. Your choices could be different than ours, but we chose two different things and you could agree or disagree with us.
