What do microorganisms do? Some microorganisms make food ( yogurt, soy sauce) Some microorganisms cause sickness Some microorganisms help kill bacteria that makes you sick (penicillin) Some microorganisms help dead things decay so the Earth is clean Some microorganisms cause skin disease Some fungi can rot and kill wood Some microorganisms help animals and human digest Some microorganisms on uncooked food makes people sick Some microorganisms help clean up oil spills Some harmful microorganisms grow on cooked foods that are left out too long Phytoplankton is a Protist that provides half of the oxygen that we breath and it is a major food source for many fish.
