(SGA is allocated and background processes are started.) 2.Mount the database. (Control file is read.) 3.Open the database. (Database is available for access.) Perform all three steps by clicking Startup in Enterprise Manager.

Managing Memory Components You can manage memory components in the following ways: Using Automatic Shared Memory Management (recommended) –The Oracle server manages the amount of memory allocated to the shared pool, Java pool, database buffer cache, and large pool. –By using an initialization parameter, you specify the total memory to be allocated to the SGA. Managing component sizes through individual initialization parameters and using the Memory Advisor
