PUBLIC INFORMATION 10 ME Runtime User Management FactoryTalk View 8.00 LV  New runtime user management buttons are now available  Add User / Group  Delete User / Group  Modify User / Group  Unlock User  Disable User  Enable User  Modification to application at runtime are persistent in MER file. Add users, delete users, and change user’s group membership, all at runtime. Once an application is deployed on a PVP, View Studio is no longer required for most security modifications to the project

Copyright © 2014 Rockwell Automation, Inc. All Rights Reserved. PUBLIC INFORMATION FactoryTalk View 8.00 Updated Domain Authentication

Copyright © 2014 Rockwell Automation, Inc. All Rights Reserved. PUBLIC INFORMATION Domain Authentication before v8.0  Domain authentication only supports Windows 2000, Windows 2003 mixed-mode, and Windows 2003 native-mode domains  Requires changes to domain policies to work  Successful configuration was time-consuming; often customers could not get it to work  Extensive Knowbase article covers setup and known constraints  No support for Windows 2008 or Windows 2012 domains 12

Copyright © 2014 Rockwell Automation, Inc. All Rights Reserved. PUBLIC INFORMATION 13 Windows Domain Authentication FactoryTalk View 8.00 LV  PVP uses LDAP services to perform authentication. Domain must support LDAP.  Engineering workstation (View Studio) does not have to be part of the same domain controller.  LDAP over SSL is also supported. Operators can authenticate with Windows 2008/2012 domains Engineering Workstation With FT View Studio located at OEM office. Domain Controller located at End User site PVP at End User site

Copyright © 2014 Rockwell Automation, Inc. All Rights Reserved. PUBLIC INFORMATION Domain Review  Support Windows Server 2008 & 2012 Domain authentication  Domain must support LDAP  Additional LDAP configuration in ME Station  Supports LDAP or LDAP Over SSL  LDAP Over SSL encrypts the user credentials  LDAP over SSL requires certificate to be moved (manually) to terminal 14  Engineering workstation (View Studio) does not have to be part of the same domain controller.  Windows CE does not cache credentials.

Copyright © 2014 Rockwell Automation, Inc. All Rights Reserved. PUBLIC INFORMATION Mobility Leveraging Microsoft Remote Desktop Services

Copyright © 2014 Rockwell Automation, Inc. All Rights Reserved. PUBLIC INFORMATION Remote Desktop Services 33  Remote Desktop Services (known as Terminal Services prior to Windows Server 2008 R2) is a standard feature built into the Windows Server family that provides remote access to servers from practically anywhere in your enterprise.  The term “thin client” can refer to a low-end hardware option and/or any host that is remotely accessing the Remote Desktop Server.  While multiple sessions run on a single Remote Desktop Server, each user can only see their individual session.

Copyright © 2014 Rockwell Automation, Inc. All Rights Reserved. PUBLIC INFORMATION Conclusion 34  Remote Desktop ServicesAdvantages:  Increased network flexibility and security  Accelerate Application Deployment  Application Consolidation  Mobility  Remote Access  Remote Desktop Services Disadvantages  Higher initial costs for a new system  Potential for Single Point of Failure for all thin clients when using a single Terminal Server. This can be mitigated using by:  Implementing a load-balanced farm using RDS/TS Connection Broker  Maintaining additional “thick” clients  FactoryTalk View SE is supported with Remote Desktop Services. For more information, see RA id 567658 - Using FactoryTalk View SE with Remote Desktop Services.  PVP6 with extended features can be used as Thin Client.  Form factor (device screen size) is your biggest challenge with mobility.
