Key Words Language Learning Strategies Indonesian EFL Learners Writing Skill
3
Definition Language learning strategy is certain actions or techniques used by students to learn language or to solve problem in language learning Language learning strategies see communicative competence as the main goal. It stimulates the development of communicative competence to be used specifically in authentic communication. This is a skill of knowing not only linguistic structures, but also knowing of what to say, when to speak, and how to say it appropriately within a context.
4
Context and Setting Based on the research conducted by Mistar, Zuhairi, and Parlindungan (2014), to 766 senior high school students in East Java, Indonesia. It was (1) to identify learning strategies of writing skill used by senior high school students of East Java – Indonesia; (2) to explain the use of the strategies; (3) to investigate the inter-correlation among the strategies.
5
Context and Setting The students were asked to complete a questionnaire of strategies of learning writing skill and a self-assessment. The component matrix was rotated using Varimax with Keiser Normalization Method and the resulting factors were then treated as posteriori strategy categories.

Strategies of Learning Writing
7
Why Writing? WRITING Students are demanded to master writing skill in order to be able to communicate, express thought and feeling in verbal way Writing is believed as a useful activity for students who learn language Attention devoted to this skill in school context is limited
8
Implication… Affective strategies were used most frequently. Good attitude is important to improve and maintain the success of language learning (Gardner, 1985; Setyadi, 2008; El-Dib, 2004). Affective strategies might build students motivation in writing. Authentic strategies were at the lowest frequency. The availability of authentic media and activity for writing were limited.
9
implication… Authenticity in teaching writing is important to emerge classroom writing as the real writing (Brown, 2007; Weigle, 2002). Providing as much authentic writing as possible is one of teaching writing principles (Brown, 2007). Each category of the strategies (12 categories) was significantly correlated one another. An increase in the use of one category tends to be followed by a similar increase in the use of other categories. (It supports Oxford and Ehrman 1995; Setyadi, 2004; Mistar, 2001, 2011)
10
implication… Effective implementation of language learning strategies leads to autonomous of learning (Mistar, 2001, 2011; Cohen, 2000). Teachers might focus on product or process, focus on genre of text, or teachers want the students to engage with creative writing.

Recommendations Should provide opportunities for students to develop skills of English (Writing) through the use of language learning strategies. Should provide strategies of writing skill that involve authentic practicing. Should apply language learning strategies of writing skill more frequently to achieve better success in writing. Need to study the relationship between the use of language learning strategies of writing skill and writing achievement. Need to investigate the relationship between individual difference and language learning strategies. Need to study this topic in a wider range of subject and a broader issue.
