2 © 2008 Open Grid Forum 2 Where are we now? We have a sufficient body of specifications and profiles to implement various identified use cases in distributed computing. Customer (user) value of standards is increased when they permit interoperability between packages/systems/vendors and when concepts can be transferred from one system to another.

3 © 2008 Open Grid Forum Moving forward In order to maximize the value of our standards and best practices, we need to: Demonstrate interoperability of functioning infrastructures – not just demo’s and one- offs Vendors (including infrastructure providers) will not implement without customer demand. Get vendors to adopt/implement specifications and profiles

4 © 2008 Open Grid Forum 4 Use case driven Standards are valuable if they can be used to address real use cases found in distributed computing Today’s session is intended to describe how the specifications in different areas of distributed computing fit together to address higher level use cases

How do OGF specifications apply or relate to “new” computing initiatives such as Cloud computing, Green IT, or Virtualization? 6
