5. Legal Aliens Legal alien applies for permission to be here; work or school Immigrant is someone who travels here with the intent to stay here Have written permission to be in the United States (visa, green card) Can’t vote or hold public office Have the same legal rights as citizens

6. Illegal Aliens Travel into the US without permission, illegally Cannot do anything in the US legally: work, vote, drive Can be deported if found Why would someone come here if they would be an illegal? Money, children, education
