Activity 82: Braking Distance Warm up: what are the net forces shown in the 3 force diagrams?
2
Net Force Practice Feel the Force: Work with one other partner on the “Feel the Force” worksheet. When finished, check your answers with the answer sheet at Miss Pyle’s desk!
3
Activity 81 Analysis Questions Every person at your table pick a question and draw/write the answer on the white boards. Talk about your answers together and see if you are all in agreement.
4
Activity 81 In Case You Missed It Net force: the overall amount of force acting on an object. Add forces pointing in the same direction; subtract forces pointing in opposite directions.
5
Activity 81 In Case You Missed It Balanced forces: The total forces “cancel out,” causing the object to either not move, or continue moving at a constant speed. The net force is zero.
6
Activity 81 In Case You Missed It Unbalanced forces: The total forces acting on an object do not cancel out, resulting in a push or a pull of an object. Net force cannot be zero. An object with unbalanced forces can either accelerate or decelerate.

Activity 82: Braking Distance Please open your books to page E 41.
8
Activity 82: Braking Distance Braking distance: The distance a vehicle travels in the time between the moment the brakes are applied and the moment when the vehicle comes to a stop. When you cover the track with a cloth, will the braking distance become longer or shorter?
9
Activity 82: Braking Distance Follow the procedure on your own. Be sure to create the chart in your notebook. Follow directions carefully; it tells you everything you need to know!

Tonight’s Homework Complete Activity 82 analysis questions. Do #1-4, not the extension question. Kings Island permission slips and money are due in ONE WEEK!
