3 A Leyden Jar was used in this famous kite experiment. The story claims that this scientist touched a charged key to the jar and proved that lightning and static electricity were the same thing. Ben Franklin 1752

Alessandro Volta Volta invented the Voltaic pile on 1799. The Voltaic pile used a chemical reaction to create electrical energy. This type of reaction is still used in batteries today.
5
1800 Allesandro Volta developed the voltaic pile, a forerunner of the electric battery. The pile consists of a number of discs of zinc and copper separated by pieces of wet cloth and arranged in a vertical column. This was the first device to produce a steady stream of electricity and could operate for decades.

Dry Cells Bases can make current electricity. How many volts is in each cell? BONUS
11
Batteries are electron pumps. They provide a voltage to a circuit. There are two main types: Wet-cells Dry-cells (contain a liquid electrolyte) (contain an electrolyte paste)

Electromagnetic armature commutator permanent magnets brushes The Electric Motor
25
EXPLANATION Electricity enters the electromagnetic armature through the brushes and commutator. The armature becomes electromagnetic and it is repelled and attracted by permanent magnets. This causes tiny pulls and pushes making the armature spin. Gears, blades or other machines can be attached to the armature to give us mechanical energy.

Brainpop – Nikola Tesla

Nikola Tesla -1856 – 1943 -Tesla was born in what is now Croatia and came to the US in 1884 -Briefly worked with Thomas Edison -Interest in electricity developed early in life. -His mother invented small household appliances in her spare time. -He sold the patent to his AC machine to George Westinghouse -His AC system was used at the 1893 World’s Columbian Exposition in Chicago and in one of the first US hydroelectric power plants at Niagara Falls -The Tesla Coil was the foundation for wireless technologies and is still used in radio technology today.
