Step 1: WRITE YOUR OWN POEM ABOUT… BELONGING Consider the following before you start writing: Structure (formal such as sonnet, haiku... Or free form) Rhyme (a poem does not have to have a rhyming scheme but you may like to build one in) Rhythm (number of beats per line) Mood or tone (how you would like your poem to sound when you read it aloud. This might be closely linked to your rhythm)

The final step is to write a paragraph (200 words minimum) which explains your thinking throughout this process. 1. What are the main messages of your poem? 2. How have you have used language and poetic devices to convey your ideas ? 3. How does your selected art work reflect the main messages of your poem?

Present your poem and accompanying artwork as an A3 poster. You will present your explanatory paragraph followed by a reading of your poem to the class.
