Winter Assignment for IB and AP Drawing Still life with contour and shading 1.Set up still life at home or floral arrangement. Use a desk in bedroom or somewhere you can leave up for a week. 2.Use viewfinder to determine composition. Locate a center of interest. 3.Use 14 x 17 Drawing pad. Drawing shoutld cover at least ¾ of paper. Don’t worry what the exact outside boarders will be for now. Do a light BASIC SHAPE drawing in 2H pencil. DON’T DO CONTOUR DRAWING AT THIS POINT. 4.Once you’ve created the basic composition with basic shapes. Start at center of interest and begin to draw a modified contour drawing in 2B pencil varying the line a little bit. 5.Once the contour drawing is completed., Begin at the center of interest and begin to shade in pencil. Transition the shading from detail at the center of interest to lighter shading and less detail as you move toward the edges. 6.Go back to center of interest and refine the focal p point with detail and contrast. 7.LEAVE SOME OF LINE CONTOUR DRAWING. DO NOT FILL IN ALL AREAS WITH SHADING.

Start at center of interest and begin to draw a modified contour drawing in pen with permanent ink. 5.Once the contour drawing is completed. Using watercolor or acrylic paint in the flower areas with wet into wet technique. Determine what color each flower or object will be. Use color of object as a guide, but you simply copy. Have one dominant color, but flow at least two colors in to each shape area. Let some areas be unpainted or just lightly painted. Try to identify the center of interest and paint with a little more contrasting color or value. 6.TRY TO CREATE INTERESTING FLOWING OF COLOR OR SPLATTER TEXTURES WITH IN THE COLOR AREAS.

AP Assignment for AP Drawing and 2D Design. 1.Take pictures of objects or places in your house or neighborhood. Include at least one picture of a person. 2.Using photos use line sketches of unusual or dreamlike combinations of the images focusing on a center of interest. Surreal meant to explore the subconscious, dream or illogical world. 3.Do final compositional sketch. Do a color sketch if you are going to complete drawing in color. 4.Do final outline drawing of composition on Canson paper or white drawing paper. 5.Complete drawing in color pencil or pencil. At least 8x10 inches

AP Assignment for 2D Design Cubist cutout drawing AP 2D Final size approx 14 x 16 1.Do drawing of a still life (set up at home of in class) from several angles and directions. Draw in charcoal or charcoal pencil. 2.Do at least three drawings. Some close up with large shapes and some farther away with smaller shapes. 3.Cut drawings in to larger pieces in curving cuts and odd shapes 4.Use cut up pieces to arrange an asymmetrical composition with a center of interest and other supporting shapes and area of interest Center of interest – focal point

Use strong light source for dramatic lighting. Choose the best photo and print an 8 ½ x 11 print Create a thumbnail sketch in charcoal pencil focusing on creating a dramatic lighting Finish final drawing on drawing paper in charcoal and kneaded eraser.
