3 History In 1920, Roy Thomson launched a business with his brother, buying and selling auto parts. The venture flourished for a few years before teetering on bankruptcy. Roy started a Radio station broadcasting under the call sign CFCH 1931. Outgrew Canada, moved to the UK and bought a TV station.

4 Business David Thomson and his family control a media and publishing empire founded by Roy Thomson. They also hold a stake in the telephone company Bell Canada and own the Toronto-based Globe and Mail newspaper. Much of the family business is conducted through their private holding company Woodbridge, which Roy's seven grandchildren and their families assist, David is part-owner of the NHL's Winnipeg Jets and has a minority stake in the Montreal Canadians.

5 Present Life He is the father of four children, including two daughters from his first marriage, one son born with his second wife after their separation and one daughter with actress Kelly Rowan who he is also separated with. David Thomson is a patron of the Art Gallery of Ontario. With the death of his father, he became the 3rd Baron Thomson of Fleet on 12 June 2006.

6 Final thoughts The Thomson Family’s wealth has been going on for generations and I think it will continue like that because the son of his marriage with Kelly Rowan he is the company’s designated heir.
