5. Task 1: Development patterns of CEEC in the course… P1.1. Questions: which factors were essential in determining the trajectories of development? Common factors? Policies? Macro? ‘Soft’? Early, intermediate & recent experiences? Convergence so far? Prospects? (Not rosy?) Progress: good progress achieved. P1.2. Questions: how do the CEEC experiences compare with other assessions (‚cohesion countries‘)? Progress: pretty good progress achieved – extension to regional/social level desirable – discussion with UEF and IWH. P1.3. Questions: what are the lessons from country experiences? (A sort of summary of results in P1.1. & P1.2) Progress: some ideas already crystalised.

6. Task 2: Patterns of structural change: internal & external factors P1.4.Questions: the main longer-term structural-change trends? Progress: conceptual framework worked out, data collected P1.5. Questions: emplyment effects of structural change? Progress: ??? P1.6. Questions: impacts of trade on specialisation changes? Progress: pretty good progress achieved (data& methods of analysis worked out).

Questions: what are the growth factors at regional/national levels? Progress: First set of data collected (100+ variables), analysis on the way. P1.11. Questions: Impacts of globalisation on national/regional groth factors? Progress: pretty good progress reportedly achieved.
