Audit of the uptake & compliance rates of Hepatitis B vaccination at STI clinic Midland Regional Hospital Portlaoise

2011 audit using the Schedule 0,1 and 6 months: The audit identified that the time interval between doses was a barrier to attending and the subsequent lower level of compliance and follow up. Due to the poor uptake and level of compliance schedule was changed to 0,1,2 and booster at 12 months with subsequent titres in November 2013. A second Audit was then carried out in 2014 and 2015 to review the uptake after the revised schedule was implemented. From November 2013 vaccination was only offered to IDU’s, MSM’s and Heterosexuals who were not practising safer sex.

Overall results show that compliance rates using both schedules is poor. Some of the difficulties: Defaulting on appointment dates resulting in patients having to recommence the programme Patients not attending to complete the vaccination programme Patients not returning for Titres
