4 Need for Additional FRG Volunteers FRG activities can be more successful with additional volunteers to assist Number of additional volunteers needed depends on: Key volunteer positions needed (key callers, social media coordinator, etc.) Number of volunteers needed to perform different FRG activities

6 Expectations of Key FRG Volunteers Dependability Be friendly and courteous Flexibility Know your role Maintain confidentiality Open-minded Maintain communication Take care of yourself

7 What Volunteers Need Communication Updates on changes within the Command Changes of Command / Personnel changes Mission / drill date changes Training Orientation to understand the mission of the Unit Tools or skills to do the position they agreed to do Support (!!!) Need to be treated as part of the Command's Staff

8 FRG Volunteer Training Information and training for FRG volunteers available from a variety of sources including: Family Readiness Support Services (FRSS) Trainers Online Trainings Army Family Team Building Joint Services Support Local community The FRSA or FRG leader will inform volunteers when and where to get any training needed

9 Support for FRG Volunteers Defined task and/or written job description Training Communication Guidance and encouragement Supervision and feedback Command presence at planned events Authorized use of government resources for official FRG business Recognition!!

10 FRG Volunteer Supervision The FRG leader is responsible for overseeing: volunteer coordinators all FRG activities Supervision will typically be done informally by maintaining communication with volunteers Action by the FRG leader (or unit commander) may be necessary if: Violation of rules or regulations occur Failure to perform assignment Blatant mistreatment of others Disregard for privacy or confidentiality

11 Administrative Tasks Related to Lead Volunteer FRG Leader/Unit commander/FRSA will: Provide written job descriptions Ensure volunteers complete necessary forms Review reimbursement procedures for volunteer expenses - statutory volunteers only Provide mentorship Encourage logging volunteer hours www.jointservicessupport.org
