Dress Men: suits, white shirts, ties, and well- kept shoes. Women: stylish yet modestly cut suits and pumps, minimal accessories Red = positive color

Small Talk NO: –start conversations with strangers; do not be surprised or insulted if a Dane does not respond –Flattery = compliments inappropriate –Rude = asking personal questions about a person's private life (religion, income, or family) YES: –Safe topics = Danish culture, current events, your home state or town

Titles Use a person's title until the use of first names is welcomed Call people by their first names once rapport has been established, but wait for OK Danish courtesy titles. –Hr: Mr. –Fru: Mrs. –Froken: Miss

Punctuality Punctuality very important –be exactly on time for all business appointments & social engagements In Scandinavia, summer is a time for leisure –Inconsiderate to conduct major business during July and August –Many companies close for extended periods during these two months to allow their employees to take summer vacation

Gift Giving Gifts = not required in a business relationship especially at first meeting Good gifts –Flowers OK if invited to a home, roses are acceptable but not white roses; white = mourning –Illustrated book from your home country or city –Because Danes enjoy alcoholic beverages, wine, whiskey, and similar beverages make good gifts. Red = good color to wrap gifts in If you happen to receive a gift = open it in front of the person rather than waiting

Other Important Tips Distance: stand at least two arms lengths away to give him or her enough distance. Gestures: –"OK" gesture = an insult –"V" for "Victory" - if done with your palms facing in = very rude and obscene Tips not required; included in bill
