Intro: Parts of Speech There are 8 parts of speech: Nouns Verbs Adjectives Adverbs Prepositions Conjunctions Pronouns Interjections

Conjunctions Conjunctions are connecting words that join things Example: “or” joins but makes an option What do you like best, dogs or cats? Example: “and” adds things together in a sentence I like baseball and soccer.

Using “and” / “or” Sentence 1: I am going to play. Sentence 2: I am going to study. Using “and”: I’m going to play and I’m going to study. Using “or”: I’m going to play or I’m going to study.

Adjectives Adjectives are words that describe nouns (person, place, thing, idea) Adjectives are used to say how something feels, tastes, looks, sounds, etc. Ex: The gray sky made me think it was going to rain at any moment. Sometimes two adjectives are used to describe something. Ex: The car was sleek and fast.

Pronouns & Proper Nouns Pronouns take the place of nouns They save us from repeating the same name or thing over and over again Pronouns are words such as: It He She They Ex: Joe won the new car and he jumped with joy.

Proper Nouns Something’s own name Includes nicknames, pet names, places, cities, etc. All proper nouns start with a capital letter

Interjections Interjections are words or short phrases that show strong emotion or surprise I a sentence. Ex: Hey! Don’t kill flies with my new shoes! Ex: Yikes! That’s a long way down
