1 Overview of the NATIONAL STI HIV & AIDS PROGRAMME

2 Overview of the National STI HIV & AIDS Programme The national programme was formalized in 1989. The goal of the programme is to facilitate and sustain an effective expanded response to HIV & AIDS through the stimulation and coordination of activities implemented by an alliance of a wide cross section of our community, including Government, private sector and civil society.

3 Objectives of the programme The specific objectives are: To develop sustainable programmes to meet the needs of Anguilla To serve as the directing agency for HIV AIDS policies and programmes. To coordinate the muti-sectoral efforts aimed at stemming the spread of HIV in Anguilla. To serve as the focal point for information and advise on STI’s HIV & AIDS To ensure continuous networking between partners to achieve the necessary synergies To be the clearing house for all HIV related information and to analyze and disseminate this information to all partners. To encourage contributions from new partners in the expanded response to HIV/AIDS

6 Strategic Plan In March 2001 the National STI HIV & AIDS programme developed its Strategic Plan.. This was accomplished with the assistance of CAREC and a wide cross section of our community..;

7 Mission statement “ To equip the government and the people of Anguilla with information and services, designed to reduce the transmission of HIV in Anguilla through the promotion of Behaviour Change and the development of treatment and support services for persons infected and affected by HIV”.
