Boil Water Notice Project Objectives: Reduce costs of notifying citizens of Boil Water Notices Provide a safer delivery method for employees Develop an online mapping application for customers to view notice areas Utilize technology to leverage our GIS data and ERP software

Today’s Process: Hand Deliver 1. Main break or Scheduled shutdown occurs 2. Utility crew conducts repairs and brings system back online. 3. Utility crew’s hand Deliver / place door hangers – Boil Water Notice 4. Post signs at entrance and exits of area affected (if applicable) 5. Office staff contacts health department & informs them of the affected area 6. Office staff dispatches UCD field personnel to collect water samples for 2 days 7. Office staff receives “clear bacteriological results” from health department 8. Utility crew’s hand Deliver / place door hangers – Stop Boiling Water

Staff delineates “Boil Notice” via online mapping app, System generates automated calls to customers 5. Staff contacts health department & informs them of the affected area 6. Office staff dispatches UCD field personnel to collect water samples for 2 days 7. Staff receives “clear bacteriological results” from health department, adds rescission date via online mapping app, System generates automated calls to customer.

Development & Implementation Phase 1: Identify software, data & process:[Completed] Utilize current ‘Selectron’ Delinquency notice call system and expand its capabilities Utilize current ArcGIS software coupled with customer data to identify affected customers Design online mapping component to delineate affected areas Initialize calls to customers via manual alert campaign creation Phase 2: Automate call process using Spatial data:[Completed] Generate back end programming to acquire customer data when a polygonal area is created in GIS Work with ‘Selectron’ to fully automate call process to run daily with minimal user intervention Develop public map application that shows areas affected by a boil notice Integrate SMS messaging

Customer Contact Information System utilizes contact information stored on the Utility Billing System maintained by Customer Billing Services We are building a web portal to allow the customer to notify CBS of any contact information update including phone numbers and email addresses. For cell numbers they will be able to denote that they wish the City to forward Boil Water Notices as text messages In the meantime customers may update this information by calling CBS at 239-574-7722
