Bringing Storybooks to Life! Let’s tell a story! By Lou Jara Townsend Elementary School
2
When you’re reading a story, How many times have you heard.. Can I see the picture again? What did that person say? Will you say that again? You’re reading too fast!
3
How about turning that book into a presentation for all to see?
4
How do you create a storybook presentation?
5
Step One.. The Book! Choose a book with big colorful pictures. Words should be in the form of phrases Pictures covering both pages are difficult but not impossible to work with.
6
Equipment needed… Computer Scanner PowerPoint application Microphone Your voice
7
The Preparation… Scan each page of your book Keep image size no larger than 640x480 or low resolution (72 pixels)
8
The Process… Create a file folder to store your scanned images Scan each page into the computer and save into that file so it is easier. I found it easier to name each picture according to the page. Page 1 etc Double pictures give A & B
9
The Compilation… Open PowerPoint Start new presentation Insert each picture according to the book layout Dual pictures each get half of the slide, i.e. right side of page is right side of slide left goes left. Match pictures at seam
10
Add Reading… Insert Movies & Sounds Record Sound Do this for each page with a reading Accessories Entertainment Record Sound You will have to manually paste the sound on each page If making a CD, copy sound files too
11
Finishing Touches… Step up Slide Transition –Fade to Black is a good choice –Timing to include voice readings before advancing –Give time so students can “take in” the picture –If automatic, take check mark off “Click mouse”
12
Let’s See a Finished Product
13
Now, How do we do that?
14
Once you insert your pictures….
15
How to Set up Show… Slide Transition Slide Sorter View
16
Add Transition and timing… Fade Through Black Uncheck mouse click for automatic use Add timing
17
Record Sounds…
18
Using Sound Recorder…
19
Using Sound Recorder Record each Passage Save individually Save in Same folder as scanned pages Record Save As
20
Once everything is in place… Test the book Adjust the timing Adjust the custom animation
21
If you transfer to a CD… Make sure all sounds are transferred to CD After “burning” project on a CD test it. How about adding a label to the CD?
22
