Pupil Premium- where our money has been spent in 2014-2015 Emotional Literacy Support £7,160 The school has two skillful Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSAs) who work with children in small groups, pairs or individually. The sessions focus on the child’s individual emotional needs so that within a safe, caring and supportive session a child’s self esteem and confidence can grow whilst tackling difficult life experiences such as parent deployment oversea, divorce or separation and loss of a loved one. KS2 Specific SEN Teaching £ 5,000 Children have been identified who are making slow progress and have lower attainment than expected in their year group. These children are taught in a small group of 1:5 by our SEN teacher who focuses on their specific needs in order for the gaps in their learning to be narrowed. KS2 Small Group Booster £4,250 Children who need to make accelerated progress in English and/or Maths are taught by an expert teacher in small groups (4-6 pupils) in order to ensure individual needs are met and excellent progress is made. Lunchtime Club £3,000 Extra support for children with specific needs at lunchtimes. A highly skilled member of staff works with these children to develop social needs and show children the value of working together and eating with friends and family. Lego and games are used to promote fine motor skills as well as cooperation and social skills. KS1 Targeted Intervention £21,275 There are many reasons why a child may fall behind with their learning. We provide children with the opportunity to catch up within supportive small groups. The sessions are normally run by Teaching Assistants or the SEN teacher or SENCo. The school is committed to effective intervention and has trained the staff to deliver Write Away and Reading Inference sessions and Maths is enhanced using Numicon. Family Grants £3,600 At Sherborne Primary School we understand that life can be full of unexpected difficulties. We aim to support families through these difficult times with support from a small grant. Parents may use this funding to receive grants to cover the cost of uniform, music tuition, sports clubs or appropriate sports kits for clubs. Speech and Language Support £4,300 The school works very closely with the NHS Speech and Language Therapist. Children are referred for some therapy and then our in-school Speech and Language Teaching Assistant delivers the programme. The sessions are offered individually or in pairs and the child practices their letter pronunciation, sentence structure or develops their vocabulary. Theraplay £ 255 Meeting children’s unmet emotional needs through adult led, nurturing games and playful activities. Developing social skills, self-regulation, self-esteem, self-confidence and a sense of belonging through doing, not talking. Cool Club £ 1,300 Based on Dorset County Council’s Learn to Move. Move to Learn programme, the school supports children who are having difficulties with their gross motor skills and coordination. Balance and postural stability are crucial skills to master before concentration, organisation and full learning potential can be achieved. Cool Club offers exciting, fun and lively sessions where children can practice their skills using a wide range of specialist sports equipment. Behaviour Support Service £2,100 If a child has a behavioural, social or emotional difficulty the school may make a referral to the Behaviour Support Service. The advisory teacher will then observe the child in class, talk with the child and then put a set of recommendations in place for the school and family to follow. Additional Teacher to Maintain Small Classes £36,800 As the school has 300 children (approx) it could be split into 10 classes. However to ensure the best provision and effective learning environment for our children we have 11 classes. This has a significantly positive impact on the children especially the Foundation Stage as they are taught in smaller classes. Breakfast club £ 450 For some children the transition in the morning between home and school can be emotionally challenging. What better way to feel more settled than to eat a delicious breakfast in a calm, caring and nurturing environment with a familiar adult. Forest School £3,350 Dorset Forest School are passionate about connecting children to nature. This intervention encourages holistic development, but most importantly supports social interactions as activities are designed to build co-operation, communication and self-esteem. Homework club £650 Sometimes children have extra complications happening at home and it may just be unfeasible to complete homework with parents. So this group gives children the opportunity to do it at school. Parents can come along too. Pupil Premium Administration £2,000 Pupil Premium Budget £96,241 SEN Assessment resources £ 740 New materials to screen children at KS1 and KS2 for Specific Literacy Difficulties
