Motorcycling A presentation on the theme of “My Hobby or Interest” I used a consistent background and colour theme throughout the presentation – “it hangs together well” I chose a red font colour to suggest excitement I used sound and animation sparingly (only on the first slide) – too much might have distracted from the content I used sound and animation to grab the audience’s interest at the start

I got my first bike on my 17 th birthday I really wanted a 250cc Yamaha ……. My parents bought me a scooter! There was no training in those days I rode around, and fell off a few times Took the test, and never looked back! How I got Started I used the same slide transition throughout – it’s best kept simple I only used 2 fonts in the whole presentation – one for titles and one for bullets Most slides have about the right amount of text, but this has a bit too much to take in easily Personal details add to the interest
4
My first bike was a Vespa It was a nice shade of pale blue Bought second - hand A dull, but reliable machine Top speed ……………… 40 m.p.h. My First Bike I found quite an appropriate clip art image, but a scanned photograph of the actual scooter could make it more personal I used bullets points throughout to keep the information concise
5
Bristol to Lands End in one day …… On a Vespa 90 Scooter! Toured Cornwall for a week Returned home Traded in the scooter for a “125” I’d caught the motorcycling bug! My First Big Tour A clip art map of the South West is an appropriate image I copied and pasted it from the Internet, and resized it – unfortunately it has lost definition This is a compressed JPEG file – other file types may stay sharper when resized

Honda VFR750 The best all – round bike for the road! Bright Red Amazing V4 engine Top speed ………………………..140mph My Current Bike I inserted a digital photograph of the actual bike, but a picture of the owner with the bike would add interest Cropping the photograph in Photo Editor could have removed some of the distracting background
7
The Honda has been all over Europe Furthest South – Costa del Sol Furthest North – Cape Wrath 72,000 miles in 6 years! Touring Holidays It would be better if the map showed where the Honda has actually been Good contrast between the font colour and the background colour make it easy to read
8
No motorcycle can do it all If I won the lottery……………… I would buy a sports motorcycle, a touring machine, and an off – road bike to go in my garage One of them would be a Ducati! They are the Ferrari of motorcycles! My Dream Bike I used some red font colour. This was appropriate here – it is the traditional Ducati and Ferrari colour Quite a nice photograph, but an action shot might have been better still
9
You will need a Bike (max 125cc) You must do Compulsory Basic Training Then you have to take a 2 part test This includes an exam Two years probationary period……… There is a power limit – 30 horsepower Becoming a Biker I only used 3 font sizes in the whole presentation I chose the colour theme of black, grey and red, because it is appropriate to a technical subject like motorcycling The change of theme to becoming a biker could add to the interest for some members of the audience

Helmet Gloves Boots Textile suit or leathers Earplugs! The “Kit” You Need A quite striking image – It could be you! – adds to the interest I tried to use a light – hearted tone in the bullet points to engage the audience. The use of humour is a good idea, but it’s not easy to bring off! I think I achieved a logical sequence of slides – I planned it in advance
