4 4 Challenge your Models Are they robust and consistent and do they tell you what would happen if… Crewing changes Fire safety changes – e.g. sprinklers Stations move Shift systems change Is the risk assessment compatible with Targeting CFS Fire safety data Community risk registers Neighbours Can it tell me outcomes Lives saved Property saved

5 5 IRMP Process Scope Risk analysis Strategies Delivery Monitoring & Review

6 6 Improving the evidence base for IRMP Research into : Risk assessment tools, techniques and data for IRMP and CCA purposes with the Cabinet Office Development of Major Incident module : tie in with CCA and risk assessment, EA assessments and provide outcomes where possible CFS evaluation Recent research has provided a relationship between smoke alarm ownership and reduction in dwelling fire risk ‘Workload’ modelling Plan to roll out current version, gives good answers but slow Simulation proof of concept model has also been developed to improve speed

7 7 Future Research to underpin the evidence base Research Councils Ideas Factory for the IRMP Steering Group £1.45m of research funding in spring 2008 “to support the strategic priorities for the Fire and Rescue Service in the next 10 years to enable a proportionate and balanced approach to prevention, protection and response activities."
