4. Warm-up questions Do you often make phone calls in English? Do you have a cell phone? What’s your attitudes towards cell phones? (important, useful, necessary, convenient, save time… unnecessary, annoying, unhealthy, emit radiation…)

9. Making a phone call (2): --Hello? --Hello. Can I speak to Ann, please? --Hold on, please./Hold on a minute./Please hold the line./One moment, please. I’m sorry, she’s not in at the moment. Would you like to leave a message?/May I take a message? --Ok, tell her that Tim called./Could you ask her to call me back when she returns?

10. Speaking Listen to Track 3-6-3 and practice the conversation. Pair work: Imagine you are calling a friend at their office, make a conversation based on the model dialogue. A: Hello. Ms. Cabrini, please. B. I’m sorry. She’s not here. May I take a message? A: Yes, tell her Tad called. B: Tad? Could you spell that, please? A: Certainly. You spell it T as in tango, A as in apple, D as in Donald.

11. Communication Group work: Evan is twelve years old. He wants a cell phone. But each person-”father”, “mother”, “doctor” holds a different attitude towards this. Now role play the situation and come to a decision. Listen to Track 3-6-4 and pay attention to the expressions they use.
