Mrs. Stouffer’s Credentials This is my 5 th school year at MPASD at Donegal as the Title I Reading Teacher Graduate of Mt. Pleasant Area School District Received Elementary Education Bachelor’s Degree from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a concentration in Reading Received Reading Specialist Certification from the University of Pittsburgh in 2008. Elementary Classroom teacher for 5 years in Maryland. Long-term substitute -Title I and Classroom teacher in several school districts in Western PA

What is Title I? Title I is a federally funded remedial program. It provides extra reading instruction for those in most need.

Our mission is to encourage, develop, and support students in acquiring the necessary literacy skills to become successful readers

How was my child chosen for Title I? Results of Multiple Assessments

DIBELS Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills Different components based on grade level and benchmarks Individualized test Given to all K-2 students and Title I Reading students in grades 3 – 6.

STAR Standardized Test for the Assessment of Reading. A computer test given to all students first through sixth grade. Can be a group test or done individually at any time. Gives immediate reports for teachers and parents including suggestions. Ability to give us Grade Equivalents, Instructional Reading Levels, and a zone in which students should be reading.

Who makes the decision if my child should be in Title I? The Title I Reading Specialists do, along with the supervisor and input from the classroom teacher, based on the multiple test results.

Will my child stay in Title I forever? Not necessarily. We are a flexible program. We will assess three times a year.

Technology We Use Computer Labs Computers in the library Laptops for our Title I students to use right in the classroom.

Technology We Use Promethean Boards in the Title I classrooms and Computer labs

Technology We Use Staff uses I- Pads for testing and progress monitoring with INSTANT results.

Computer Programs We Use Reading Eggs & Reading Eggspress- a unique online world where children learn to read. It supports each child’s learning by offering individual, one-on-one lessons that allow children to progress at their own rate. This program is an online reading program with games and activities. This program CAN be used at home.

Computer Programs we use Study Island- all Title I students and other students (grades 3-6) that need extra practice. This program CAN be used at home. Think Central Resources Other educational websites used by the Reading Specialist such as Starfall.com.

SchedulingScheduling Mostly, the Title I teacher goes into the classroom (“Push-In” ) during reading instruction or I/E time to work with the Title I students every day. Sometimes the Title I teacher will work with a small group of students.

Materials Used by the Title I Reading Teachers

The materials used are on the instructional level of your child. Title I coordinates their skill work with the classroom teacher. We use materials aligned with the Houghton Mifflin Harcourt reading series as well as the technology mentioned previously.

We drill the same vocabulary that is taught in the regular classroom and reinforce skills that are presented in that lesson. Regular meetings with the classroom teacher are held to discuss progress of the student as well as weaknesses that need to be addressed.

Parent Resource Center Housed across the district Any parent of a Title I child may borrow materials free of charge We have games, books, and manipulatives Complete form in your folder and submit to the Title I teacher. Items will then be sent home with your child. Good for long breaks or rainy weekends
