Brief Description –For this assignment, I will be giving a PowerPoint presentation on my personal philosophy of education. The presentation will be identifying my core beliefs, as of today, toward my future becoming an effective and accomplished teacher. In this PowerPoint, I will be answering a handful of personal questions regarding my interest in teaching. Rationale –To my understanding of Standard #10, Leadership and Collaboration, this Personal Statement PowerPoint Project describes this assignment by seeking appropriate leadership roles and taking responsibility for student learning. My knowledge of advancement in this profession, for myself as the teacher, would be to continue my educational skills to better my students learning. Reasons for Wanting to Teach Why do I want to teach? –To have a positive impact on students’ future to help make them a valuable member of society. –Continual education – good teachers never stop learning. –I enjoy working around children and knowing that I can help students become successful. –Family-friendly work schedule. –Have a work environment that is never dull, everyday is different. –I want to help, teach, and inspire special education students. 4

Effective Teacher Traits What traits of effective teachers do I possess? –Flexibility – able to adapt to situations accordingly in and out of the classroom. –Patience – the ability to teach struggling students properly depends on this. –Dedication – to the subjects being taught to better the learner’s knowledge and the course curriculum. –Positive Attitude – creates a warm atmosphere for learning. –Sense of Humor – helps students stay on task and break the routine. –Intelligent – Knowledgeable in all aspects of subject matter. 5

Educational Philosophy What kind of teacher do you want to become? –I want to become a role model for my students. –I would like my students to trust me and enjoy a blended learning of subjects in my classroom. –I’d like to be able to manage my classroom well. –I want to have a positive attitude each day and never lose my patience with a student. –I will have to be dedicated to the subjects I am teaching, not just the students, and continually further my knowledge in those subjects to better support students and their questions. –I want to teach elementary education (K-2 nd ) and have a certification/license for special education students. “A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops.” –Henry Brooks Adams “Do not train a child to learn by force or harshness; but direct them to it by what amuses their minds, so that you may be better able to discover with accuracy the peculiar bent of the genius of each.” –Plato 6

Student Characteristics What are the characteristics of the students I want to teach? –The “want” to learn, and the “want” to get good grades to become successful in their future. –Strong self-control and discipline during lessons, as well as following class rules. –Creativity. –Organization. –Respectful to teachers and other students. –Communication/Responsive/Approachable. –Basic knowledge of subjects. –Involved, motivated, and hard working. –Leadership and supportive. –Common sense, and problem solving capabilities. 7

Community Characteristics What are the characteristics of the community where I want to teach? –Supportive in the education of students at home by parents or guardians. –Leadership skills. –Advice freely given by local teachers during collaborative functions. –Involved in afterschool activities and events (including coaching, tutoring, fundraisers, summer school, other gatherings). 8

Contributions to the Profession How will I contribute to the profession of teaching? –I will educate my students effectively to achieve their goals. –Constantly further my education to better my teaching skills for my students and myself. –I will be involved with my students, as well as their parents, by phone calls, notes home, and conferences as needed, since I have chosen teaching the younger children and special education as my profession. 9
