Impressment Leopard-Chesapeake Affair---1807 In the early 1800’s the Royal Navy was embroiled in a war with France. They needed more sailors to man the huge number of ships, so they began stopping U.S. ships to search them for deserters. However, they began to take anyone who was born in Britain, regardless of whether they became legal U.S. citizens or not.

The Atlantic Coast The Royal Navy blockaded the coast devastating agricultural exports. However, they allowed New England to export things to Canada. Constitution vs. Gurierre Burning of Washington- Followed the Battle of Bladensburg Heights; The Capitol Building and Whitehouse, along with several other government buildings were burned. Battle of Baltimore- Sea and land; Bombardment of Fort McHenry led to The Star Spangled Banner

The Southern States Battle of Horseshoe Bend- Andrew Jackson vs. Creek Indians Battle of New Orleans- Andrew Jackson vs. British; British lost 2000 killed, wounded, or captured; Americans lost 71

Treaty of Ghent Signed December 27, 1814 (Battle of New Orleans- January 8, 1815) It returned things to how they were before the war. However the British paid the U.S. for slaves they incited to escape to Britain.
