1 Today is August 17, 2015 Bell work: Title your bell work sheet “Relationship Survey.” Answer the Relationship survey questions in your notebook. Journaling: Analyze your own relationships using critical thinking skills. In a paragraph, describe some of the positive attributes that contribute to successful relationships. Do not write on the handout – class copy!! Answer honestly!

Panelist and commentator for ESPN-TV Awards: Distinguished Writing Award, 4 time 1 st place winner in the associated Press Writing competition.

3 Morrie Schwartz Born in Chicago 1916 to Russian and Jewish immigrant parents Grew up in NYC Grad of NYC College PhD in sociology from University of Chicago Taught sociology at Brandeis University 1959-1995 Died at home in West Newton, MA Nov 4, 1995. Book: Morrie: In His Own Words – a collection of his aphorisms with commentary published in 1996 as Letting Go.

4 ALS – Lou Gehrig’s Disease Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Rare and incurable disease of the nervous system Gradually destroys the nerves that control the muscles. Nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord degenerate and die – means the lose of ability to transmit impulses to the muscles. Progressive weakness and paralysis Usually death occurs when the muscles that control breathing stop functioning (2-5 years from first symptoms) Named after baseball player (NY Yankees 1925-1939) was diagnosed with ALS.
